Door County’s Holiday Music Motel Holds Postcard Contest

The Holiday Music Motel in downtown Sturgeon Bay has issued a challenge: design a postcard by Feb. 28, and they just might print it to be sent around the world by guests of the motel. The contest also offers a first-prize package.

The Sturgeon Bay’s Holiday Music Motel has a legacy of songwriting. The early-1950s boutique motel is retro-chic with an unusual twist: it is owned by a group of musicians and music-enthusiasts. The Holiday features a weekly open mic, regular house concerts, and annual songwriters’ weeks. With a recording studio onsite manned by two Grammy nominees (full-time sound engineer Billy Triplett and producer pat mAcdonald), the Holiday has engaged artists from across the globe.

“We wanted to appeal to people who might not otherwise get involved,” said Jillian Nelson, a manager at the Holiday. “So we’ll be publishing all of the submissions on our website, and even if you aren’t up to the challenge of submitting an entry, you can still vote and be a part of it in that way.”

Beginning March 1, the public can visit the website and vote daily for their favorite submission. The selection will be narrowed to three finalists and on March 7, the winner will be announced.
