Door County’s Peninsula Music Festival Announces Opening Overture for 59th Season

Peninsula Music Festival (PMF) recently announced the results of their poll for a favorite overture to open their 59th season.

After all of the votes were tallied, the PMF season will open on August 2, 2011 with Verdi’s Overture to Nabucco, which received 533 votes. Finishing about 100 votes behind, was Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri. Third place went to Rossini’s The Barber of Seville with 343 votes. The Bartered Bride by Bedrich Smetana finished in fourth place with 280 votes. Last place was awarded to Mozart’s The Magic Flute.

All money raised from the overture voting will help defray the cost of the festival’s radio broadcasts.
