Door County’s Ridges Sanctuary Hosts Snowshoe Hikes

Starting on Jan. 7, The Ridges Sanctuary in Baileys Harbor will sponsor weekly, guided Snowshoe Hikes. Each Friday in January and February, participants can join Naturalist Karen Newbern to explore the trails and learn more about winter ecology and wildlife.

Snowshoe Hikes begin at 1 pm at the Ridges’ Marshall Cabin located at 8288 Highway Q in Baileys Harbor. The hikes last about 90 minutes, and are appropriate for beginner to intermediate snowshoers.

The hike will cost $5 for those who bring snowshoes, $10 for those who need to loan snowshoes. (Call ahead to reserve a pair.) If there is insufficient snow, participants will hike without snowshoes.

Trails at The Ridges, located just north of Baileys Harbor on Highway Q, are open to the public year-round for hiking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing for a small fee. For more information call 920.839.2802 or visit http://www.RidgesSanctuary.org.
