Door County’s Shepherd of the Bay Presents Performers from Lyric Opera of Chicago

Three professional singers from Lyric Opera of Chicago will present a concert at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Ellison Bay on May 28 at 7 pm. They will also perform the following morning at the church. Sopranos Robin Wiper and Desirée Hassler and mezzo soprano Pamela Williams will be joined by pianist Judith Jackson for the two Memorial Day weekend events.
On Saturday, the performers will present a multi-faceted program of vocal music, featuring costumes and props. Highlights will include Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier” and Leonard Bernstein’s “Glitter and Be Gay” from the opera Candide. A reception will take place following the concert.
On May 29, the first church service begins at 8:30 am for the annual Johann Sebastian Back Sunday Service, where the visiting Chicago artists will return to sing with the Shepherd of the Bay Kleine Choir and Sanctuary Choir. This popular annual church event features historic Lutheran worship, with music and liturgy of the 1700s.
Shepherd of the Bay is located at 11836 Highway 42 in Ellison Bay. There is no admission charge for the concerts, though a free-will offering will be taken to help defray the singer’s expenses. For more information call 920.854.2988.
