Door Islands Bird Festival Promises Weekend of Birding

The Door Islands Bird Festival 2013 is scheduled for May 31 – June 2 primarily on Washington Island, with additional bird scoping on Hog and northern Detroit Islands and a hike on Rock Island.

This is the time of late migration and early to mid-breeding, when birds are at their showiest. They exude irresistible energy through their colorful plumages, intense songs and calls, and defense of territories.

The festival includes: exploring favorite birding sites around the islands, a “sit in” in a bird-rich area, an exploratory hike to a new wild area, a banquet with Pat Ready (an avid birder and photographer), and exploring bird-rich areas around the Rock Island boathouse and lighthouse.
