Door Kinetic Arts Festival Merges Stage, Cocktail Scenes

Ringing in its fourth year on the peninsula, the Door Kinetic Arts Festival (DKAF) will present its lineup of artists and cocktail connoisseurs June 9-14. This year’s festival will feature an exciting range of evocative artists on the screen, stage and behind the bar.

Harold Green is a Chicago-based, multidisciplinary spoken-word poet and performer who’s aggressively working to move the genre forward. Every show that Green creates is a one-of-a-kind, full-sensory experience.

The energetic, charismatic, two-person SossyMechanics theater and dance company combines the forces of Brian Sostek and Megan McClellan, whose whimsical sensibilities, exacting standards and cinematic aesthetic have earned them an award-winning reputation for dances that “recall Fred and Ginger at their most playful.”

DKAF welcomes back Lucky Plush Productions for its third season. Founder and artistic director Julia Rhoads leads the Chicago-based ensemble company: a hybrid of high-level dance and theater that’s recognized for its layered choreography, nuanced dialogue, surprising humor and socially relevant content.

New York Times writer and cocktail aficionado Robert Simonson will also return to kick off the festival on June 9, 3 pm, by hosting the second annual DKAF cocktail competition at the new Hatch Distilling Co. in Egg Harbor.

The contestants’ challenges in this free event will be to use a Hatch Distilling product in their creations and to evoke Door County’s spirit through taste and presentation. The winning drink will be served at the festival. Festival passes are $30; premium passes are $50; tickets for each night are $10. Half-price student tickets and passes are available by emailing [email protected]. Learn more at doorkinetic.com.
