The 8th annual Door Prize for Portraiture opens for public viewing June 30 at Chez Cheryl Artspace in Baileys Harbor.
This invitational exhibition features 28 regional emerging and established artists brought together to celebrate the portrait. All artists in this year’s exhibit are Door County residents with many new artists featured.
Each year new artists are featured but many are returning to address the theme of portraiture in uniquely personal, often amusing and thought-provoking ways. This event not only encourages, honors and celebrates portraiture, but encourages connecting with friends and artists, many of whom do not have a gallery affiliation in Door County but continue to hold a presence in the region.
“We share this event with our friends and art lovers and each year have been thrilled with the response from the artists who have been invited to contribute to this event,” said host Cheryl Stidwell Parker.
This year’s artists are: Sharon Auberle, Donna Brown, Julia Van Roo Bresnahan, Jan Comstock, Dennis Connolly, Dan Cross, Sally Everhardus, David Franke, Marty Gerber, Lynn Gilchrist, Connie, Glowacki, Paula Swaydan Grebel, Barb Henderson , Doug Henderson, Emmett Johns, Jeanne Kuhns, Mynn Lanphier, Margaret Lockwood, Liz Maltman, Colleen McCarty, Micheal Nitsch, Christine Zak Ohman, Cheryl Stidwell Parker, Rick Risch, Suzanne Rose, Mary White, Cynthia Wolfe, and Archelle “Buttons” Wolst. Each year a juror selects several honorable mentions and a Best In Show award. This year’s juror is artist and museum curator at St. Norbert College, Shan Bryan-Hanson, who will offer comments and present awards at the artists’ reception on June 29 at 6:30 pm.
The exhibit opens for public viewing on June 30 and will continue through July 8 at the following times: 10 am – 4 pm Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Chez Cheryl Art Space is located at 8360 High Plateau Road in Baileys Harbor. For more information call 920.421.1690.
