Door Shakespeare Presents Doorways Acting Camp for Children

“From the start it has been the theatre’s business to entertain people…it needs no other passport than fun.” – Bertolt Brecht

Fun and play is exactly what is in store with Door Shakespeare’s educational summer program for kids, Doorways: Creating Theatre For Children.

Founded in 2000, Doorways offers children the opportunity to explore the power of creativity through developing original theatre pieces. During each session students will play traditional theatre games, learn improvisation skills, and experience group-acting exercises.

Professional actress Jennefer Ludwigsen will conduct the workshops with the assistance of Door Shakespeare actors.

This year, the camp will expand to include two Tuesday through Friday sessions: July 26 – 29 and August 2 – 5. Separate classes for children ages 7 to 11 and for middle school through high school students are offered at Bjorklunden in Baileys Harbor from 10 am to 12:30 pm. Older students will also focus on skills needed to perform Shakespeare.

Each four-day session will culminate in a presentation that will precede Door Shakespeare’s Friday night performance of Twelfth Night.

Ludwigsen, who lives in Los Angeles, is a graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Washington MFA Professional Actors Training Program. A member of the Door Shakespeare Company, she has also performed with American Folklore Theatre, as well as appearing in Chicago theatres, television commercials, and starring in an upcoming Paramount Pictures feature film, Area 51. She has taught theatre workshops throughout the United States.

The $75 tuition includes materials, snacks, and a Doorways t-shirt.
