Door Shakespeare Presents Doorways

Fun and play is exactly what is in store with Door Shakespeare’s educational summer program for kids, Doorways: Creating Theatre For Children.

Founded in 2000, Doorways offers children the opportunity to explore the power of creativity through developing original theatre pieces. During each session students will play traditional theatre games, learn improvisation skills, and experience group-acting exercises. Older students will also focus on skills needed to perform Shakespeare.

Professional actress Jennefer Ludwigsen will conduct the workshops with the assistance of Door Shakespeare actors. This year, the camp will expand to include two Tuesday through Friday sessions: July 26 – 29 and August 2 – 5. Separate classes for children ages 7 – 11 and for middle school and high school students are offered at Bjorklunden in Baileys Harbor from 10 am – 12:30 pm. Each four-day session will culminate in a presentation that will precede Door Shakespeare’s Friday night performance of Twelfth Night.

Ludwigsen, a current resident of Los Angeles, is a graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Washington MFA Professional Actors Training Program. A member of the Door Shakespeare Company, she has also performed with American Folklore Theatre, and appeared in Chicago theatres, television commercials, and will star in an upcoming Paramount Pictures feature film, Area 51. Ludwigsen has taught theatre workshops in Chicago, Seattle, Virginia, and at Northwestern University and the University of Washington.

The $75 tuition includes materials, snacks, and a Doorways t-shirt.
