Door Shakespeare Summer Theatre Program Opens for Reservations

Door Shakespeare is currently taking reservations for the 2018 summer theatre program, Camp Will.

Three sessions are available:  July 16-20, July 30 – Aug. 3, and Aug. 13-17. The week-long theater camp takes place Monday through Friday, from 10 am to 12:30 pm on the Door Shakespeare stage in the Garden of Björklunden, 1.5 miles south of Baileys Harbor off of Highway 57.

Camp Will is a week-long workshop dedicated to the development of communication skills, language and group social skills through the process of creative play and group scene work. Each day begins with theater and improvisation games. Groups then work independently in separate ensembles to approach Shakespeare’s canon through rhythm, playful language exercises, and story drama. Older students work more intensely on vocal and physical techniques that enrich the meaning of Shakespeare’s text.

Each session is taught by professional actors from the Door Shakespeare company. The camp culminates with students sharing their work in a “green sharing” performance of scenes and monologues on the final Friday of the camp just before the main stage performance of Much Ado About Nothing.

Camp Director Elyse Edelman said, “Working with bright, fearless, and enthusiastic students on the Door Shakespeare stage is truly a highlight of my year.”

Children and students ages 7-18 are invited to attend. Tuition is $100 per session. A 25 percent discount is available for each additional student in the same family as well as for campers taking multiple sessions. To register, email [email protected] or call 920.839.1500.
