Door Shakespeare’s Doorways Theater Workshop Returns For 18th Season

Door Shakespeare’s Doorways is a week-long theater workshop dedicated to nurturing a young person’s ability to voice opinions, communicate thoughts, and foster creativity through theater games, ensemble work, and Shakespeare’s text. Now in its 18th season, this program will be offered for three sessions, allowing more students to work with the professional company of actors and educators.

A typical day at Doorways consists of games and warm-ups in the morning, followed by master classes with professional teaching artists in the afternoon, and rehearsal at the end of the day. Examples of master classes from years past include workshops in stage combat, clowning, hip hop Shakespeare, viewpoints, improv, and more.

The camp will culminate in a Greenshow Performance at 7:15 pm preceding Door Shakespeare’s Friday night main stage performance of Wm. Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. The Greenshow is a compilation of scenes, monologues, and songs from Shakespeare’s canon featuring all Doorways participants. Professional actors from the casts of Twelfth Night and The Heart of Robin Hood by David Farr direct the Greenshow, which proves a meaningful and gratifying experience for both students and directors.

Dates are: Camp 1 – July 10-14; Camp 2 – July 24-28; and Camp 3 – Aug. 7-11. Each day begins at 10 am and ends at 12:30 pm. Door Shakespeare company members Jennefer Folsom and Elyse Edelman will co-headmaster the camps.

To register a student, go to doorshakespeare.com or call 920.839.1500. All camp sessions are held at Door Shakespeare’s theater located in the Garden at Björklunden, 7590 Boynton Lane, Baileys Harbor.
