One of Door-Tran’s most important services is to track unmet transportation needs. Based on this tracking, staff found that a priority need was from folks on a limited budget who need help with car repairs, but were not eligible for the loan program.
In 2017, Door-Tran received funds from a Donor Advised Fund through the Door County Community Foundation to launch the Vehicle Repair Grant Program. Pam Busch, Mobility Manager at Door-Tran, said the organization aims to raise $10,000 per year to maintain the program.
“We are very thankful to additional donations from the Door County Community Foundation, Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church, and the Walmart Foundation,” Busch said.
Fourteen households have been assisted in the first year of the program.
The Repair Grant Program can assist with up to $500 towards vehicle repair or maintenance costs for eligible households. In addition to the Repair Grant Program, Door-Tran also offers volunteer transportation services, half-price travel and gas vouchers, and the vehicle grant and loan programs.
