“Out the Door!” Wins 2017 Book of the Year in Indie Fiction

The Chicago Writers Association has selected M. L. Collins’ Out the Door! as the 2017 Book of the Year in Indie Fiction.

A satirical novel set in Door County, Out the Door! has been described as a story that’s a little about everything: geology, sex, politics, the environment, prairie voles, cheese curds, casinos, aphrodisiacs, sturgeon, trilobites, gulls, Hat Island — and much more!

Collins has spent lots of time in Door County, starting at her grandparents’ home in Juddville purchased in the 1930s. Her grandfather, pianist Edward J. Collins, is a well-known American composer who wrote many of his pieces in Door County.

Out the Door! is available on Amazon as an e-book, through Eckhartz Press ( and locally at Main Street Market in Egg Harbor, the Fish Creek Bookshop, and at the Piggly Wiggly in Sister Bay.
