Doorways Seminars and Classes Begin

Doorways, Door Shakespeare’s educational program, will kick off its 2009 season with the first of three Saturday seminars on August 1 from 10 am – 12:30 pm at the Door County Outpost in Egg Harbor. Classes for school-age students will begin August 3.

The first seminar will be led by Door Shakespeare company member Sean Dooley and will focus on the rich text of Door Shakespeare’s 2009 production, The Merchant of Venice. The next seminar will be held August 8 and focus on stage combat with an emphasis on unarmed fighting, led by actor Khris Lewin. Door Shakespeare’s producer, Suzanne Graff, will lead the final seminar on audition techniques on August 15. Participants can register for one seminar or take the whole series for a discounted price.

Classes for grade school and high school will begin August 3 and will be led by long time Door Shakespeare actress Jennefer Ludwigsen. The goal of Doorways is to create a vibrant group of unique individuals and explore the power of creativity through developing original theatre. The students will play traditional theatre games, explore improvisation, and participate in acting exercises. The workshops will take place in the Bjorklunden Garden in Baileys Harbor from August 3 through August 7. Grades 1 – 3 will meet from 10 am – 12:30 pm, and grades 4 – 6 will meet from 1 – 3:30 pm. The classes will also use creative writing as a means for generating original performance material.

The junior high and high school session will meet on August 8 from 10 am – 3:30 pm. The session will focus on the skills needed to perform Shakespeare.
