Dorothy McDowell Adds Some Color to Northern Door YMCA

Dorothy McDowell, plein air painter, will exhibit paintings for the month of September at the Northern Door YMCA, 3866 Gibraltar Rd., Fish Creek. McDowell is a seasonal resident of Liberty Grove and is a member of the Door County Art League.

McDowell looks for bold shapes and shadows to create strong compositions. Architecture, boats and landscapes are among her favorite subjects to paint. She strives to create images that convey a sense of atmosphere, using a loose impressionist style. She uses a warm background color that is exposed in places to give extra emphasis to light and to make the color pop.

McDowell studied painting in Door County at the Peninsula School of Art with Shelby Keefe, Tom Nachreiner and John Poon, and at The Clearing Folk School with Bonnie Paruch. She exhibits her work at the Door County Art League Gallery in Fish Creek.
