DOT Delayed Sister Bay Construction

• The Department of Transportation (DOT) delayed construction in downtown Sister Bay until next year. The DOT intends to expand the highway into village park land, but has to go through an extra permitting process because some of the park was purchased with grant money that required the space be used for recreation.

The village’s other projects have not been delayed. The underground sewer and water pipes will be improved and overhead power lines buried late this year, then temporarily re-asphalted where sidewalks and roads are disturbed until DOT construction.

“We’re concerned of continuing delay [of economic development] for the merchants and business owners downtown, and we’re also concerned that with the economy continuing to improve our prices would probably rise if we wait a year or two to do the sewer and water,” village president Dave Lienau said.
