• The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will hold a public information meeting for the reconstruction of WIS 42 through the village of Sister Bay beginning in July 2014 and continuing through June 2015. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 29, at the Sister Bay Fire Station, 2285 Mill Road, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. A short presentation is planned for 5:45 p.m. WisDOT staff will be available to discuss the project details and obtain input from the public. People with knowledge about historic buildings, archaeological sites, septic systems, drain tiles or drainage problems near the project are strongly encouraged to attend and discuss them with project staff. Those unable to attend the meeting can make their comments by contacting WisDOT Project Manager Jeremy Ashauer at 944 Vanderperren Way, Green Bay, WI 54304; 920.492.4165 or by e-mail at [email protected].
• Results from the survey on Sister Bay Downtown Revitalization will be presented at the village’s economic development committee meeting on May 30. Consultants in charge of creating the revitalization plan will present their final recommendations at the meeting as well. The meeting will take place at the Sister Bay Fire Station at 5 pm.
• The Town of Liberty Grove will give public trash cans a trial run for three months. The town contracted with Going Garbage to have 90-gallon bins at the Visitor Center and Marina, and a dumpster at Fitzgerald Park. The town had previously had trouble with overflowing trash bins in public parks, and has debated whether it should supply them.
“This will be able to at least set a course for us one way or the other,” said supervisor Lou Covostsos.
• The Ephraim Fire Department will host an open house on June 1 from 10 am until 2 pm at the village fire station. This is an event for the community to meet the firefighters, see live equipment demonstrations and learn more about safety equipment like smoke alarms, fire extinguishers and child car seats. This event is free and food and beverages will be provided.
