Driver Charged with OWI, Felony Possession of Marijuana

On Nov. 6 at 5:35 pm, Sturgeon Bay Police received a report of an intoxicated driver with a two-year-old child who struck a dog while leaving a residence. Police located and stopped the vehicle, which was being driven by a 35-year-old Sturgeon Bay woman. The driver smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes. Field sobriety tests indicated the driver was impaired and the driver was arrested for 4th offense OWI, with a child under four years old (increased penalties if convicted). In addition, marijuana and a glass pipe were located in the vehicle. Due to the driver’s prior convictions for possession of marijuana, the driver was charged with felony possession of marijuana/THC and possession of drug paraphernalia. The driver was taken to the Door County Jail to wait for appearance before a judge. The child in the car was unharmed and released to the father. The dog was taken to a veterinarian as a precaution, but is expected to be fine.
