The 2022 Sister Bay Marina Fest started off with a splash on Saturday morning, when local personalities stepped up to the Dunk Tank for Defibs fundraiser. The event raised close to $5,000 for the Defibs4DoorCounty campaign of the Door County Fire Chiefs Association.
Volunteer dunkers Lars Johnson of Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant, Chad Kodanko of Husby’s Food and Spirits, Paula Anschutz of the Sister Bay Bowl, Brian Fitzgerald of the Peninsula Pacers, Mike Holmes of the Wickman House and Trixie’s, Eric DesJardin of Nicolet Bank, and Abby Duebler of The Dörr Hotel took turns getting dunked for $5 per attempt.
The campaign has already helped to place more than 50 lifesaving defibrillators around the county. The devices address an important public-safety need in Door County – a destination that attracts more than 2 million visitors a year; hosts numerous large, public events; and where nearly four in 10 people who live here year-round are 60 or older. An anonymous $75,000 matching challenge spurred the campaign to add 80 new defibrillators to Door County’s current inventory.
“We are coming close to making our goal,” said Chris Hecht, president of the Door County Fire Chiefs Association. “Events like this show Door County doing what we do best: pitching in to help improve the health and well-being of our community.”
