Prof. Gareth Lloyd Jones, emeritus professor at Bangor University, Wales, will read from the works of Dylan Thomas at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, July 28, at the Church of the Atonement, Fish Creek.
An Anglican priest, he also is the visiting rector at the Church of the Atonement, preaching at 8 and 10 am July 25 and Aug. 1.
The writings of Dylan Thomas (1914-1953), Wales’ beloved author of poetry, plays and prose, are unavoidable in literature classes at U.S. high schools and colleges. Among his best-known works are the poem “Fern Hill,” the play “Under Milk Wood” and the memoir “A Child’s Christmas in Wales.”
A lifelong admirer of Thomas’ writing, Lloyd Jones has studied at Cambridge, in Jerusalem and at Yale University Divinity School, and he has taught at McCormick Seminary in Chicago at Ripon College and at Lincoln College, Oxford.
