Eagle Bluff Light Station Preservation Continues

The Door County Historical Society (DCHS) has renewed its 1960 commitment to preserve Eagle Bluff Light Station, located in Peninsula State Park, by commissioning a Historic Structure Report (HSR).

The Jeffris Family Foundation has awarded an HSR grant for Eagle Bluff. This lead gift consists of a matching grant: the foundation will match every donation dollar for dollar. The Eagle Bluff HSR Committee has unanimously selected Preserve of Whitefish Bay to conduct the report.

“Preserve participated in HSR and restoration of several buildings, including the Ozaukee County Courthouse, Soldiers Home Chapel in Milwaukee and Cana Island Light Station,” said DCHS Executive Director Bailey Koepsel.

The HSR will document the existing keeper’s dwelling, light tower, Fresnel lens, oil house and privy; include future reconstruction plans for the barn and summer kitchen; and identify cultural landscape features.
