Eagles Beat Bulldogs in Regional Semifinals

Southern Door’s boys basketball team will play for a WIAA Division 3 regional championship at home Saturday night after the No. 2-seeded Eagles won their semifinal game Friday over No. 7-seeded Peshtigo, 74-47.

A three-pointer from Caden Pierre gave Southern Door its first double-digit lead at 10-0, and it wasn’t until 13:19 remained in the first half when the Bulldogs snapped the shutout on a free throw from Dominik Baxter.

Peshtigo relied on its outside shooting against the Eagles’ zone defense to try to prevent the game from getting out of reach when William McMahon made a basket behind the arc to cut Southern Door’s lead to 20-15.

But the Eagles pulled in front by double digits again to close out the first half capped off by a three-pointer from Tyler Neinas for a 38-20 lead at the break.

Southern Door had four players end up in double figures led by Drew Daoust with a game-high 16 points. Neinas and Pierre added 14 points apiece, while James Fish III scored 12 more.

The Bulldogs were led by McMahon with 12 points, followed by Baxter with 11 points and Canon Bickel scoring 10 more.

The Eagles, who improved to 21-4 overall, will host the regional title game against No. 3-seeded Clintonville, which won its semifinal Friday by defeating No. 6-seeded Sturgeon Bay, 58-39.
