Eagles Fall in Boys Hoops Regional Finals

The season came to an end Saturday night for the Southern Door boys basketball team.
The No. 2-seeded Eagles lost their WIAA Division 3 regional championship game at home to No. 6-seeded Campbellsport, 43-36.
Southern Door closed out the first half with a 3-point basket by Drew Daoust to lead 21-19, but then the Cougars’ defense and inside game took control in the second half.
Campbellsport pulled in front 32-29 on a 3-pointer with around 8 minutes left to play and held the lead until the final buzzer.
The Eagles ended the season 22-4 overall, while the Cougars advance to Thursday’s sectional semifinal in Denmark to play top-seeded Brillion.
Daoust led Southern Door with 19 points, which was a season low for the Eagles’ top scorer, who ended up with 835 points for 2022-23, giving him 1,340 career points after his sophomore season.
He now ranks sixth among Door County’s all-time scoring leaders in boys basketball, 226 points behind the county scoring record of 1999 Southern Door graduate Nathan Vogel at 1,566 points.

Eagles Top Two Rivers
Southern Door advanced to the regional title game after winning Friday’s semifinal at home against No. 10-seeded Two Rivers, 71-58.
Daoust led three Eagle players in double figures with a game-high 29 points, which included six 3-pointers. Jared Hawkey added 20 points, and Jack Peterson scored 11 more.
