Eagles Fall in Boys Hoops Regional Finals

The season came to an end Saturday night for the Southern Door boys basketball team.

The No. 2-seeded Eagles lost their WIAA Division 3 regional championship game at home to No. 6-seeded Campbellsport, 43-36.

Southern Door closed out the first half with a 3-point basket by Drew Daoust to lead 21-19, but then the Cougars’ defense and inside game took control in the second half.

Campbellsport pulled in front 32-29 on a 3-pointer with around 8 minutes left to play and held the lead until the final buzzer.

The Eagles ended the season 22-4 overall, while the Cougars advance to Thursday’s sectional semifinal in Denmark to play top-seeded Brillion.

Daoust led Southern Door with 19 points, which was a season low for the Eagles’ top scorer, who ended up with 835 points for 2022-23, giving him 1,340 career points after his sophomore season.

He now ranks sixth among Door County’s all-time scoring leaders in boys basketball, 226 points behind the county scoring record of 1999 Southern Door graduate Nathan Vogel at 1,566 points.
