Eagles Sweep Bulldogs, improve to 8-0 in league

Southern Door’s baseball team remained undefeated in the Packerland Conference after sweeping a doubleheader Saturday at Peshtigo.

The Eagles broke open a one-run lead with a nine-run rally to win game one in six innings, 15-5.

Southern Door led 6-0 going into the bottom of the fifth when the Bulldogs tallied five runs on four hits, a walk and an error.

The Eagles responded with nine runs on seven hits in the top of the sixth. Southern Door recorded consecutive singles from Derek Schinktgen, Braylon Berg and Jack Peterson to jump-start the rally, which also featured a two-run homer by Will Jandrin.

Jandrin, who pitched a perfect sixth inning in relief to end the game via the 10-run rule, also led the Eagles’ hitting attack, batting 3-4.

Jaden Diller and Peterson both went 2-3 for Southern Door, with Diller driving in four runs and Peterson tallying 3 RBI.

Christian Counard pitched five innings to earn the win, striking out 10 and walking four.

The Eagles jumped out to a 17-0 lead after four innings in the second game, which they won in five innings, 17-3.

Peterson, Jandrin, Diller, Tyler Neinas and Jared Hawkey all had two hits apiece for Southern Door.

Neinas led the Eagles with 5 RBI, with Diller driving in four runs for a second consecutive game.

Jandrin earned the pitching victory, tossing the first four innings, striking out four, walking three and allowing one hit.

Southern Door, which improved its season record to 9-1 overall and 8-0 in the Packerland, returns to conference play Tuesday with a doubleheader at Sturgeon Bay.

The Eagles then play a league doubleheader this coming Friday at conference co-leader Kewaunee, which swept its Packerland home twin bill last Friday against Sevastopol, 11-0 and 13-2.
