Eagles, Vikings Receive No. 1 Baseball Seeds

Two Door County high school baseball teams enter their respective WIAA regional tournaments seeded No. 1.

Southern Door, this year’s Packerland Conference champion, is seeded No. 1 in Division 3. The Eagles also received an opening-round bye and will host a regional semifinal game May 31 against the winner between No. 4-seeded Brillion and No. 5-seeded Manitowoc Lutheran.

In Division 4, Gibraltar/Washington Island received a No. 1 seed and an opening-round bye and will host a regional semifinal game May 31 against the winner of the quarterfinal game that No. 4-seeded Sevastopol was scheduled to host May 26 against No. 5-seeded NEW Lutheran.

The county’s other high school baseball team, Sturgeon Bay, received a No. 7 seed in Division 2 and was scheduled to play a regional quarterfinal game May 26 at No. 2-seeded Luxemburg-Casco. The winner plays May 31 against the winner between No. 3-seeded Wrightstown and No. 6-seeded Fox Valley Lutheran.

With the Vikings and Eagles having to wait until May 31 to open the postseason, they scheduled two nonconference games against each other within six days.

Southern Door won Saturday’s game played on Washington Island, 7-2, while the Eagles were scheduled to host the regular-season finale May 26.
