Earth Week Event Series at Base Camp

Ecology Sports and Base Camp Coffee Bar in Sister Bay will present a series of events to celebrate Earth Day and the re-opening of Base Camp.

On April 18, Base Camp will re-open at 7 am with a presentation of handmade quilts made by local quilters. The quilts will be on display throughout April. Silent auction bids will be accepted. All bid proceeds will benefit The Ridges Sanctuary Interpretive Center.

In honor of Earth Day on April 22, all customers who make a purchase at Ecology Sports on April 21 will receive a small, native white pine sapling. According to Ecology Sports co-owners, Alicia and Joel Kersebet, the trees are meant to be “living reminders of Earth Days for many years to come.”

April 25 at 2:30 pm, Tim Erskine will share his experience in building a sizable “green” addition to his Ellison Bay home. Erskine will also welcome the input of those in attendance at the discussion held at Base Camp.

Dr. Holly Phaneuf will speak on April 26 at 2:30 pm about locally available and abundant “edible weeds.” She will also discuss recipes with these ingredients for creating lunch and dinner meals. This discussion will also be at Base Camp.

The Earth Week series culminates with two events on April 27. At 2:30 pm, Tom Horsley will offer advice in starting a garden from seeds. At 7 pm, local singer/songwriters Katie Dahl and Julian Hagen will perform a live concert.
