Easement Donated to Land Trust

Door County Land Trust (DCLT) is protecting another Northern Door parcel after landowner Lisa Barker donated a conservation easement on her property. Barker purchased the property in 2017. It had been farmed, but in recent years, the natural reforestation succession had begun with sumac and saplings.

Drew Reinke, manager of DCLT’s Conservation Easement Program, began working with the Barker family in 2020 on the conservation easement: a legal agreement that forever protects the land from development and contributes to wildlife habitat while allowing the land to remain in private ownership and on the tax rolls

The 31-acre property straddles the border of the Three Springs Creek and Mink River sub-watersheds. This new conservation easement, plus three others nearby, are the start of efforts to protect more of the land surrounding the Mink River Estuary – one of the nation’s most pristine freshwater estuaries.
