Ecology Sports Celebrates Earth “Week”

Ecology Sports and Base Camp Coffee Bar are hosting a full slate of events in celebration of Earth Day. The store and coffee shop will host lectures, music and art, as well as give out white pine trees (while supplies last) to whoever can carry one home, throughout the course of “Earth Week.”

The schedule of events includes:

• Tuesday, April 20, 2 pm: Join Beth Coleman to discuss Barbara Kingsolver’s book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, the story of a family moving to the country to become and remain self sufficient. Coleman will also share tips to start your own garden.

• Thursday, April 22, 2 pm: Dr. Holly Phaneuf will give her chemist’s perspective on the benefits of plants and herbs. Dr Phaneuf is the author of Herbs Demystified, a book that highlights the healing power of nature.

• Friday, April 23, 2 pm: Meet Tom Horsley, owner-operator of Horsley Gardens. Horsley will give advice on how to start plants from seeds in a green house.

• Saturday, April 24, 7 pm: Local musicians Julian Hagen, Lynn Gudmundsen, and Rich Higdon will close the week with a live performance that is sure to “rock the camp.”

Throughout the week and into May, 10-year-old Isabella Volpendesta’s photography will be on display. Her passion for photography is derived from capturing the moment in nature. “Door County gives me a lot of inspiration,” she says.
