Ecology to Reopen in New Location April 15

Along with streamlining its name to Ecology, Ecology Sports begins a new chapter in its 44-year history on April 2, when the retail store closes its doors for business at its historic Sister Bay Old Town Hall location to reopen them on April 15 at 10740 North Bay Shore Drive, also in Sister Bay. Base Camp Coffee Bar, downstairs from Ecology Sports, will continue to serve its customers at the current address.

Alicia Kersebet, who co-owns Ecology Sports and Base Camp Coffee Bar with her husband, Joel, cites many advantages to the move.

“We’re excited to be a part of the growth of the downtown community and the improvements made by the village,” she said. “The new location brings us additional space, including a sizable parking lot and a garden in back, as well as spectacular views of the Sister Bay Marina and the bluff in the distance.”

Alicia’s parents, Nancy and Marty Drury, opened the original store in 1972 in the basement of their Manitowoc home. The business grew to locations in Kohler, Manitowoc and the Country Walk Shops in Sister Bay before it was sold to the Kersebets in 1999. According to Joel, his in-laws initiated the tradition of selling high quality, ecologically minded clothing and silent sports gear that Ecology will continue to provide.

“I carry many of the same brands that they started with,” Alicia said. “Their product lines were chosen with great care to fulfill their mission statement.”

After 17 years in the quaint Sister Bay Old Town Hall, Alicia assures her customers that the new location – renovated by local artisans Brent Hitzeman and Curt Wessel – provides a very pleasing ambience.
