Economic Development Committee Hosts Roundtable

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove, providing Liberty Grove residents and
visitors tid bits of information about goings on in Town Government.

• The Economic Development Committee of the Town of Liberty Grove is in the process of creating a plan to support and facilitate new and existing business in our community while understanding the need to maintain the unique rural character that we presently enjoy. The committee will hold a Business Roundtable Discussion on April 16 at 7 pm in the Town Hall.

The committee understands that a healthy business climate is essential to support a well-rounded community. Letters will be sent to Liberty Grove businesses inviting them to attend this discussion. Rob Burke of the UW-Extension has been invited to be the moderator for the roundtable.

• The board will hold interviews for those persons interested in filling the vacant supervisor position created by Mary Kay Shumway’s recent resignation due to moving from the town. It was decided to hold those interviews after the spring election. The interview process was used recently when Lou Covotsos was selected to fill the position vacated by Bob Tidball. Please contact the town office for additional information.

• Upon the recommendation of Plan Commission Chairperson Nancy Goss, the board appointed Michael Mercier to fill a vacant spot on the commission. The board also approved Building Ordinance 1-13. Information on the ordinance is available at the town office.

• The town board disapproved a request by Wayne Lautenbach Logcrafters to access a parcel on the unimproved extension of Old Stage Lane. A previous provision to allow access through the wetlands when “freeze down” conditions existed on the roadway expired in March of 2012. The board did not wish to sanction further damage to the wetlands and determined it was in the public interest, health, safety and welfare not to allow use of the right of way.

• The board accepted a small, .004 acres, parcel of land donated to the town by Steve Jones and his wife. It is adjacent to the Ellison Bay Cemetery. This completes a transfer of land that they previously gifted to the town.

• The town will be adding a condition to the current 1-99 Nuisance Ordinance to cover “blighted” properties.

• Ann Miller updated the board on the Door County Scenic Byways kiosks and a rendering of how the two-sided panel will appear was provided to the board.

• A preview of the Northern Door episode of Around the Corner with John McGivern will be presented at Liberty Grove Town Hall on April 6 at 1 pm. The program will be aired later this spring on Milwaukee Public Television.

• Reminders: The town board will not meet at its regular scheduled meeting on March 6; town hall is closed on March 29; spring election is April 2; and the Annual Town Meeting is April 9.
