Edgewood Hosts Labor Day Opening Reception

Painting by George Shipperley.

Edgewood Orchard Galleries will host a reception for Exhibit IV on Sept. 1 from 4 – 7 pm. Exhibit IV features painters Karen Cook, George Shipperley and Jonathan Wilde; glass artist Brent J. Marshall; and jeweler Leda Rawlins. At the reception, the artists will briefly speak about their work at 5 pm. On Sept. 2, Shipperley will demonstrate oil pastel painting techniques from 1 – 3 pm in the gallery courtyard.

Visitors will be greeted with music from The Northwoods Trio, of the Green Bay Civic Orchestra. They will play from 4 – 5 pm in the courtyard while wine and hors d’ouevres are served.

Cook’s expressive and award-winning oil paintings capture the essence of what she admires about the person or place she paints.

On Sept. 2, George Shipperley will demonstrate oil pastel painting techniques in the gallery courtyard.

The origin of Shipperley’s oil pastels comes from his imagination, whether for a compositional landscape or still life. Shipperley shares “Most anyone can draw or paint with technical training, but an artist paints from their heart and soul and gives the viewer something they have not seen or felt before.”

Wilde’s extensive knowledge of birds and nature is apparent in his beautiful and scientifically accurate oil paintings.

Working with cast glass and steel, Marshall’s creations reflect his upbringing surrounded by nature. Marshall says, “I have tried to capture peaceful moments in nature to illustrate the strength and fragility of our natural environment.”

Rawlins shares about her jewelry, “I discovered brass along with a linking style that I had never tried before and felt really fresh and unique.”

The reception is free and open to the public. Exhibit IV will be displayed through Sept. 25. Edgewood Orchard Galleries, open daily 10 am – 5 pm, is located at 4140 Peninsula Players Road, between Juddville and Fish Creek.
