Educational Exhibits at the Link Gallery

The Link Gallery, connecting the Door Community Auditorium to Gibraltar School, has featured many educational exhibits over the years. Starting in May, it will become Door County’s first gallery dedicated exclusively to the showing of artwork portraying the world through the eyes of children.

Children at various age levels from all Door County schools as well as those who are home-schooled will be invited to participate in exhibits each year. The space will also present traveling exhibits featuring art created by children from other parts of the country and the world. A wide variety of themes will be explored, everything from the natural environment to cultural traditions, historical events and values such as trust, kindness, or generosity.

Plans are underway to create a special spot for presenting children’s artwork in a variety of media. Artist Ram Rojas is set to begin painting a beautiful cloud mural on the ceiling and new lighting will be installed.

Over time it is hoped that students from throughout Door County will become involved in helping to plan and present the exhibits, including exhibit receptions.

The first exhibit, The Colors of our Lives: Door County, My Home, is scheduled to run from June to September 2015. It will include two-dimensional and three-dimensional works depicting what is especially significant or inspiring in the lives of children living here. Art teachers from Southern Door to Washington Island are being contacted by the Friends of Gibraltar coordinator, Vinni Chomeau, who will curate the exhibit. For more information or to share ideas, contact Chomeau at 920.868.3284 ext.205 or [email protected].
