Edward Minor Presentation

The Door County Historical Society will host its yesteryear program “Congressman Minor,” presented by Society Member Joe Knaapen on Aug. 25, 1 pm in the Vignes School in the Heritage Village at Big Creek.

Edward S. Minor was the only Door County man ever elected to Congress. Knaapen’s program will feature Minor’s Civil War experience with the 2nd Wisconsin Cavalry and his accomplishments in the Wisconsin Assembly, State Senate and Congress.

Knaapen is a Sturgeon Bay native, and was a newspaper reporter and editor for 30 years, mostly at the Door County Advocate.

“So little is known about Minor locally and nothing is taught about him in local schools. The Historical Village provides a perfect platform for explaining his role in Door County history,” explained Knaapen.

Heritage Village at Big Creek is located at 2041 Michigan Street in Sturgeon Bay. This program does not have an admission fee, but a free will offering will be taken to support the Heritage Village at Big Creek’s maintenance projects. The Heritage Village is open for tours prior to the presentation beginning at 10 am and after the presentation until 3 pm. Adult admission is $6.50. A donation is requested in lieu of a children’s admission fee. For information call 920.421.2332 or email [email protected].
