Egg Harbor Acquires Site for Community Center

A private donor has helped to solidify the Village of Egg Harbor’s plans for its proposed Egg Harbor Community Center and Library by buying a building site at 4639 Orchard Road.

As the village ad hoc library committee and community stakeholders worked with architects during the past few months to develop preliminary plans for this facility, it became apparent that the village-owned site on Church Street would not support the vision for the community project.

Upon review of options, the site at 4639 Orchard Road was identified as an optimum site for the Community Center. It’s location on Orchard Road, just across the street from the village offices in the Bertschinger Center, creates the opportunity to develop a convenient village center to serve the community in the heart of the village. The new site is large enough to allow the facility to grow and expand in the future, in response to the changing needs of the community.

In addition, parking for the community center could be developed on the adjacent Church Street site that is owned by the village, also addressing the growing need for parking to support the popular events at the Peg Egan Performing Arts Center each summer.

The site greatly enhances the potential for developing a landmark project for the Egg Harbor community, as well as serving future generations to come.

“The Village Board and our donors aren’t simply investing in a building, we’re investing in ideas, in our community, and in the future,” said Village President Joe Smith.

The village anticipates taking ownership of the property in November. Planning will continue to advance through the Community Center Committee, with meeting schedules posted on the Village of Egg Harbor website (villageofeggharbor.org).
