Egg Harbor approves fire station agreement

• The Village of Egg Harbor approved a 10-year intergovernmental agreement with the Town of Egg Harbor defining financial responsibilities and duties for the joint fire department and Fire Station #1 renovations at its March 14 meeting. Funding for the department is split evenly between the two municipalities. The town and village will each pay $150,000 toward renovations of the Fire Station #1. The town was set to vote on the agreement March 16.

• Nicole Krauel was appointed assistant harbormaster for the Village of Egg Harbor. Krauel reported that the village marina has three slips that remain available for the 2011 boating season. Two of the slips are for 40-foot boats, and one is for a 35-footer.

The marina’s new website http://www.eggharbormarina.com, will launch later this spring. It will include weather conditions, fishing reports, information about slip reservations, village happenings and marina amenities.

• Door County made the cover of the latest issue of Silent Sports magazine, with an article about Door County snowshoeing. Author Jim Joque checked out the trails at Newport, Whitefish Dunes, and Potawatomi State Parks, plus Cave Point, The Ridges, and a few other spots. The magazine is available on newsstands now.

• The Town of Baileys Harbor awarded a contract to Kobra Buildings to construct a new maintenance building at the Recreational Park. The town had made design changes and put the project out for a new bid after initial estimates came in at $533,000. Kobra’s bid came to $443,000. Construction is expected to begin this summer. The town also approved a bulkhead line ordinance for Anclam Beach. The ordinance will allow the town more leeway to groom and maintain the beach without getting permits each year.

• The Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago’s Board of Directors appointed Thomas L. Herlache to serve as chairman for 2011. Herlache currently serves as a member of the Baylake Corp. Board of Directors and led Baylake Bank as its chief executive officer for more than two decades. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago since 2005.

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago is an $88.1 billion wholesale bank and one of 12 district banks chartered in 1932 by the U.S. Congress to ensure a secure source of mortgage funds to thrifts, insurance companies, and housing finance institutions.

• Cajun Acres announced the arrival of Junior, a camel born Feb. 4 and brought to Door County Feb. 24. Cajun Acres former, much-loved camel Harley died in December.
