Egg Harbor Historical Society Completes Winter Series

The Egg Harbor Historical Society will wrap up its winter history hours on March 25, 1 pm, at Egg Harbor’s Kress Pavilion. The final program will feature a video interview with Peter LeMere, whose Door County connection goes back to his great-grandfather, Gideon LeMieux, who was among the area’s French-Canadian settlers.

After serving in the Civil War, Gideon moved to an Egg Harbor farm with his wife, Emily, in 1870 and eventually changed his name to Jerry LeMere. In 1889, he purchased a tavern and “soft drink” parlor. LeMere and his sons were also commercial fishers and carpenters who built much in Egg Harbor.
