Egg Harbor Historical Society to Host Weekly Winter Public Programs

The Egg Harbor Historical Society will host the first of its weekly winter public programs – stories from Egg Harbor’s Carlsville and Carmody Prairie areas – at the Kress Pavilion on Feb. 17, 2:30 pm. The history series will continue through February and March at 2:30 pm on Mondays. 

Thomas and William Carmody made their way from Ireland to Door County in 1857 by way of Quebec and migrated to the deep forest north of Sturgeon Bay with the intent to harvest the timber. Eventually, a number of Germans moved to the area, and the community became known as Carlsville. The Carmody families moved farther north into the wilderness. Thomas and William each had large families of five sons and four daughters, which eventually led to referring to the area as Carmody Prairie.
