“Ekphrasis: Joining Words and Art” at Brew Coffeehouse

Two creative Door County groups – The Word Women poets and The Blue Ponies artists – have merged their considerable talents for “Ekphrasis: Joining Words and Art” at Brew Coffeehouse in Ellison Bay.

Ekphrasis means the use of one art form to capture and illuminate the essence of another art form or medium. For this exhibit, poets from The Word Women chose a piece of visual art created by members of The Blue Ponies to use as a springboard for an original poem related to that art. Each piece in the exhibit will be accompanied by its respective ekphrastic poetry.

Jennifer Lee, manager at Brew Coffeehouse comments, “I am very excited to host “Ekphrasis” as our inaugural show here at Brew. The process intrigues me, and I know others will enjoy it as well.”

Participants in the show include: Sharon Auberle, Francha Barnard, Julia Bresnahan, Jude Genereaux, Cynthia Johnson, Estella Lauter, Cynthia Oliver, Nancy Rafal, Marie Skrobot, Kathy Stanazek, Meg Vermillion, and Karen Wilson.

“Ekphrasis: Joining Words and Art” will show from September 1 through October 4. An opening reception will be held Sunday, September 12 from 5 – 7 pm.

Brew Coffeehouse is located on Hwy. 42 in downtown Ellison Bay and open daily at 6:30 am. For more information call 920.421.BREW.
