Below is a sampling of some of the more useful resources for learning more about the candidates, the process, and the issues:
• usa.gov/Citizen/Topics/Voting/Register.shtml
Registering to Vote and Voting
• CQpolitics.com
Web site of Congressional Quarterly, one of the most respected and objective political publications in the nation. Site includes candidate profiles, articles, and a fun tool, “The Truth-O-Meter,” which provides a thorough vetting of candidate statements for accuracy.
• Health08.org
See adjacent article.
• CNN.com/election/2008
Candidate profiles, interactive maps, Election 101 page, and for those who don’t get into useless information like positions, policy, or issues, there’s a Money page where you can track the race like the national media – by judging candidates on their fundraising capabilities.
• Factcheck.org
Site scours debates, speeches, and Web sites for misstatements, errors, or erroneous claims by politicians and commentators. Also includes features like “Ask FactCheck” and “Fact of the Day” (Feb. 6 fact, e.g.: Eleven U.S. states do not have a single Fortune 500 company).
• NPR.org
Home of National Public Radio, with a great archive of interviews and discussions with and about the candidates and issues.
• cagle.msnbc.com/politicalcartoons/
A great site for the latest in political cartoon from across the nation from MSNBC.com.
