Elephant Revival and Greensky Bluegrass Play Double Bill at DCA

Elephant Revival at Door Community Auditorium in 2012.

On Sept. 15 Door Community Auditorium (DCA) will present a double-bill concert by two of the hottest young bands in contemporary roots music: Greensky Bluegrass and Elephant Revival.

Both bands have garnered critical acclaim and cultish fan followings through their prodigious instrumental skills, fresh takes on traditional music and joyous performance styles. Together for a one-of-a-kind concert at DCA, Greensky Bluegrass will present its kinetic “newgrass” alongside Elephant Revival’s “transcendental folk.” Elephant Revival has exhilarated DCA audiences twice before; the DCA debut of Greensky Bluegrass will make this concert even more remarkable.

Elephant Revival is a Colorado-based quintet on the cutting edge of an emerging new genre known as transcendental folk. With washboard, djembe, musical saw, electric banjo, guitar, mandolin, viola, bass, and fiddle, Elephant Revival plays a vast repertoire of original and traditional material. In one show, the quintet can be seen delving into Celtic fiddle tunes, original folk pieces, traditional ballads, psychedelic country, indie rock, powerful reggae grooves and 1940s jazz standards, with an occasional hip-hop beat.

The performance begins at 7 pm and reservations are recommended. Tickets range from $18 to $28. For tickets, call 920.868.2728, visit dcauditorium.org, or stop by the DCA box office. The box office is located at 3926 Highway 42 in Fish Creek and is open 12 – 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
