Ellison Bay Goes LED for Christmas

The Ellison Bay Service Club has provided energy-efficient LED (Light Emitting Diode) lights for the Ellison Bay town Christmas tree as part of their mission to protect the environment.

Lighting consumes 22 percent of the electrical power generated in the United States, but by using LED technology consumption is reduced, which then reduces greenhouse gases and other pollutants. The lighting also saves money. LEDs can radically change the energy consumption patterns of the world when they become more widely used.

The benefits of LED usage include:

• Reducing power consumption

• More efficient converting energy to light, not heat

• Long life span of the bulbs (50,000 – 100,000 hours of use)

• No mercury or other toxins

• And, they are recyclable

The tree lighting ceremony will take place in downtown Ellison Bay December 7 at 6 pm. Refreshments provided by the Viking Grill and Baylake Bank will follow.
