Ellison Bay Pottery Welcomes Joanne Kirkland

Pottery by Joanne Kirkland.

John Dietrich and Diane McNeil of Ellison Bay Pottery in Ellison Bay announce Joanne Kirkland, a potter who was represented by The Potters Wheel for twenty years, is now showing and selling her work at their gallery.

Kirkland, who works in porcelain clay near Madison, Wis., uses wax resist and a palette of just six glazes to draw out imagery and metaphoric activities.

“I like to mix history and art,” she said. “I want the influence of these traditions to fuse with the contemporary in my art.”

Kirkland attended Eastern Illinois University and taught high school art for four years before she decided to build on her own studio. She adds, “Inspiration comes from my dreams, and elements of my daily life become incorporated into my work, similar to the way of the ancients and images they left behind.”

Ellison Bay Pottery, located at 12156 Garrett Bay Road, is open 10 am – 5 pm daily and closed Sunday. For more information call 920.854.5049.
