Emma Bousley Qualifies for State CC Meet

Southern Door freshman Emma Bousley has qualified for the WIAA state cross-country meet Oct. 29 at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

In Saturday’s Division 3 sectional at the Meadow Links Golf Course in Manitowoc,  Bousley completed the 5,000-meter course in 21 minutes, 23.5 seconds for 10th place overall. 

As the fifth finisher not on one of the state-qualifying top two teams, which included Lourdes Academy (51) and Valders (59), she earned the final individual state-qualifying position out of the sectional.

Sevastopol sophomore Naomi Rikkola finished less than 10 seconds behind Bousley to place 14th overall in 21:32.6. The Pioneers recorded another top-20 finish from junior Bea Dramm, who placed 19th 21:54.5.

Gibraltar’s top finish was recorded by senior Betsy Lecy, who placed 17th in 21:51.8. 

Lourdes Academy sophomore Erin Moore finished first overall in 19:45.3.

In the girls team standings among Door County’s schools, Sevastopol (159) finished fifth, with Southern Door (361) 14th and Gibraltar (368) 15th.

In the boys race, Southern Door sophomore Ben Grota finished 1.3 seconds behind the final individual qualifier when he placed ninth in 17:40.7. Another Southern Door sophomore to finish in the top 20, Lucas Conard, placed 18th in 18:19.3.

Sevastopol’s only boys runner in the race, sophomore Jairus Dadam, placed 38th in 19:32.5. 

Kohler senior Davis Behler placed first overall in 16:49.9.

In the boys team standings, Kohler (67) and Valders (89) placed in the top two to qualify their entire teams for state. Southern Door (275) placed 13th. 

Division 2 Brillion sectional 

Sturgeon Bay competed Saturday in the Division 2 sectional at the Deer Run Golf Course in Brillion.

The Clippers (373) placed 13th in the girls team standings, with their top individual finish recorded by junior Julia Kurek, who placed 55th in 23:25.3

Xavier (40) and Notre Dame Academy (50) finished in the top two to qualify their entire teams to state. Xavier junior Lilie Fouts recorded the overall top individual finish in 19:09.3.
