You can now find an urban street food favorite in northern Door County. Island Orchard Cider is offering empanadas with local flavor at its tasting room in Ellison Bay.
This summer Chef Seth Campbell introduced empanadas, a folded Spanish pastry popular in South America, to the cidery. Toppings are wrapped in a folded dough stuffing. Campbell makes a mushroom mozzarella, pulled pork with a an apple cider vinegar barbeque sauce produced in-house (Island Orchard will introduce a line of vinegars later this year), as well as a smoked whitefish empanada.
These pies are the perfect grab-and-go or snacking food that fit in the palm of your hand, and a great excuse to visit the tasting room. Try them Wednesday through Sunday from 12 – 6 pm. Island Orchard Cider is located at 12040 Garrett Bay Road in Ellison Bay.
