Linda Beckstrom – a 1971 Gibraltar alumna and a granddaughter of the founder of Sister Bay’s Masterfreeze Corporation, E.F. “Andy” Anderson – is creating a history of the company. With a government contract in the early 1950s, Masterfreeze employed nearly 300 people to build walk-in freezers between 1945 and 1966.
Beckstrom has received a collection of photographs and memorabilia from her mother, Anita Beckstrom; and her uncle, Fred Anderson, and materials found in the Door County Advocate archives and those of local historical societies add up to 50-plus pages of photos, news articles, samples of ads and more. However, no employee rosters remain.
In order to acknowledge the effect that Masterfreeze had on local families, Beckstrom is seeking employee information from anyone whose family members or older friends worked there. She’s looking for employees’ names or nicknames, hometowns, job titles, years employed, and any other details, memories or anecdotes. Photos are also greatly appreciated, and they will be credited and returned.
If you have information, email Beckstrom at [email protected]. The booklet should be published later this year, and copies will go to historical societies and libraries.
