Enjoy the Winter Weather at Crossroads

The holiday tree near the fish exhibit in the entry level of Crossroads at Big Creek celebrates the Great Lakes. Friends of Crossroads decorated it with little lighthouses, toy boats, lures, and bobbers.

Even though temperatures are falling, Crossroads at Big Creek offers ample opportunities to enjoy the start of winter.

“A Hike to the Evergreen Forest” will be held on Dec. 8 at 1 pm. The naturalist will lead a one-hour hike to evergreen forests within the Crossroads property. Hikers will learn how these trees are adapted to survive winter.

Hikers should meet at the Collins Learning Center. This hike is free and open to the public.

The Door Peninsula Astronomical Society is eager to help people see twinkling stars in the December sky and are offering a free introduction to the night sky to teach the basics, such as locating constellations and reading a sky map.

The classes are Dec. 8 and Dec. 12 at 7 pm and will meet at the Astronomy Campus. A planetarium presentation will be offered if the skies are cloudy. Participants should dress warmly.

Crossroads at Big Creek is a learning center welcoming learners of all ages to participate in activities focused on science, history and the environment. The Collins Learning Center, located at 2041 Michigan in Sturgeon Bay, is open daily 2 – 4:30 pm.
