Birch Creek brings jazz and classical music to a rustic barn, Midsummer’s Music Festival tours the peninsula for intimate concerts, and the Peninsula Music Festival awes visitors and locals alike at the Door Community Auditorium each august.   • Gibraltar Music Boosters Seek Support

    The Gibraltar Music Boosters seek to add a keyboard lab and the necessary equipment to support their already popular music education programs. “We have one of the highest music program participation rates in Wisconsin,” says Lauren Gilmore, director of Choral Music at Gibraltar Area Schools.

  • Lenten Musicales at Shepherd of the Bay

    The second Lenten Musicale at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church on March 3 at 4 pm features the Sanctuary Choir and Handbells. The program, conducted by Director of Music Gladys Austgen, consists of music, readings appropriate to the season, and hymns sung by the audience.

  • Performers Needed for Fourth Annual Renaissance Faire

    The positions of Rat Catcher and Royalty have already been filled, but the Door County Renaissance Development Group, Inc. is currently seeking local talent to participate in their 4th Annual Renaissance Fantasy Faire in a variety of other roles.

  • Peninsula Music Festival Favorite Makes Winter Appearance

    Pianist Andrew Armstrong, a favorite with the Peninsula Music Festival (PMF), will perform as part of the Festival’s February Fest on Feb. 16. The 2 pm concert will be held at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Ellison Bay, the winter home for the PMF’s Steinway Concert Grand.

  • Concert Pianist Katie Reimer Performs at UUF

    The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship presents concert pianist Katie Reimer on Feb. 23 at 3 pm. Based in New York City with Door County ties, Reimer is touring with music by J.S. Bach, Johannes Brahms, and living composers Daniel Bernard Roumain and Mohammed Fairouz.

  • Local Students Participate in District Music Festival

    Hundreds of music students from area schools will participate in a Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) sanctioned Music Festival hosted at Gibraltar Middle School on Feb. 23.

  • The Peninsula Singers Hold First Rehearsal of the Season

    Weekly rehearsals for The Peninsula Singers’ begin February 25 at the Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church. Artistic Director Merle Colburn invites all who enjoy choral singing to join The Singers as they prepare for the spring concerts, May 11 and 12.

  • Shepherd of the Bay Hosts Lenten Musicale Series

    The public is invited to a series of concerts, presented by musicians of Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church, on successive Sundays in February and March.

  • Birch Creek Acquires a Bevy of Percussion Instruments

    Birch Creek Music Performance Center announces the acquisition of 20 percussion instruments and supporting hardware for 2013. This important contribution toward music instruction, learning, and performing at Birch Creek was made possible in part through a grant from The Raibrook Foundation.

  • Bjِrklunden Hosts Free Concerts in Early February

    Lawrence University’s Bjِrklunden will host a couple concerts in early February. On Feb. 7 at 4:30 pm, Sharan Leventhal on violin and Paulina Zamora on piano will perform works by Copland, Shifrin, Cage, and Ravel.

  • Luke Spude Named Door County Idol 2013

    And Luke Spude of Southern Door High School was named this year’s Door County Idol. On Jan. 5, Spude along with five other talented teens from throughout the Door Peninsula – Dominique Bowers, Katie Glabe, Bjorn Kettering, Alix Boettcher, and Genevieve Pelrine – competed for the title by singing two songs to over 200 audience members at Southern Door Community Auditorium.

  • Registration is Underway for Art for Health Workshops

    Ministry Door County Medical Center’s (MDCMC) Art for Health workshops for children are beginning at the end of January. Each free Art for Health session runs for five consecutive weeks.

  • PMF’s February Fest Concerts held at Shepherd of the Bay

    The Peninsula Music Festival’s (PMF) February Fest takes place Feb. 9 and 16 at 2 pm. The Feb. 9 performance features the PMF Trio – violist Thomas Kluge, clarinetist David Bell and pianist Judith Jackson.

  • Free Guitar Concert at Bjِrklunden

    Lawrence University’s Bjِrklunden will host a concert on Jan. 27 at 1:30 pm. Members of the Lawrence guitar studio will present music for solo guitar and guitar ensemble.

  • Organ Workshop for Church Musicians

    “Playing the Organ with Confidence and Success: A Workshop for Church Musicians” will be presented by Naomi Rowley at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church on Feb. 2, 9 – 11:30 am.

  • Door County Band Students Showcase Talent

    Accomplished band students from area high schools have been selected to participate in the Bay Area Music Association (BAMA) Honors Band on Jan. 5. Conductor Dr. Phillip Ostrander, Associate Professor at UW – Eau Claire, will work with the students that day, culminating in a brief concert at the Door Community Auditorium in Fish Creek at 4 pm.

  • Southern Door Auditorium Hosts Door County Idol

    Whether a fan of competitions or not, Door County Idol is a great reward for youths willing to put themselves “out there” to share their talent for singing and performing.

  • American Folklore Theatre Presents “Home for the Holidays with AFT”

    American Folklore Theatre (AFT) announces a performance date change for “Home for the Holidays with AFT.” There will not be a performance on New Year’s Day, but there will be performances on New Year’s Eve at 4 and 7 pm.

  • Door County String Academy Performs

    The Door County String Academy held a concert at Hope Church in Sturgeon Bay on Dec. 2. Members of the academy also performed with Christine and Nelson Whyatt of the Fairland Bluegrass Band and Hana Rass.

  • Peninsula Singers Celebrate with “Hallelujah! It’s Christmas!”

    The Peninsula Singers are ready to bring yuletide cheer to the Door County community with two choral performances of “Hallelujah! It’s Christmas!” Artistic Director Merle Colburn selected a program to challenge and display the talents of the fifty-plus volunteer choir and accompanist Janet Anderson.
