Participants from as far away as Washington, Arizona, and Maryland, as well as hundreds of local Wisconsinites gathered for a second year in Sturgeon Bay on June 25 to partake in Door County’s only green trail running event held at the Crossroads at Big Creek.

The DC Extreme softball team won the Green Bay East ESA 12 and under softball tournament on the weekend of June 24 – 26. The team made up of girls from Gibraltar, Sevastopol, and Sturgeon Bay schools outscored their five opponents 68-0.

Almost 500 bicyclists took to the back roads of Door County June 18 to support The Ridges Sanctuary in the 23rd annual Ride for Nature. The ride featured routes of 15, 25, 50 and 100 miles on the peninsula’s scenic back roads.

Kevin Leroy finished first in the Washington Island Canoe and Kayak Event’s marathon course June 18. Leroy took on a strong east wind that brought 5-foot waves in some parts of the course to finish in 3:29:32.

Husby’s slid into the top of the standings with a shutout of Bay Shore Outdoor Store, while Nicolet Beach Concessions dropped their first of the year to the milkmen of Gray-Aire Dairy June 8.

The 2nd Annual “Running Green for Crossroads,” the only eco-aware trail run in Door County, will take place on June 25 starting at 9 am. All of the courses, including a 2K, 5K and 10K trail walk or run, are staged on the woodlands and open fields in and around Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay.
