Door County is renowned nationwide for it’s array of local, independent theater in settings unlike any other. There’s the historic Peninsula Players on the water, Northern Sky Theatre in the woods of Peninsula State Park, and Door Shakespeare in the gardens of Bjorklunden.   • Shimmy Marcus Night Set for May 24

    The Door County Short Film Festival (DCSFF) presents Shimmy Marcus Night on May 24 at 7 pm at the Town Hall in Sister Bay. DCSFF will be showing a short and a feature length film by renowned Irish filmmaker Shimmy Marcus, winner of the 2014 Door County Short Film Festival.

  • Panel Discussion to Follow “columbinus” Performances

    columbinus will be performed at Third Avenue Playhouse in Sturgeon Bay from April 25 – 27. Following each of the four performances of columbinus, there will be an audience discussion with special guest panelists along with the cast and director of the play in order to talk further about the many issues raised in the play.

  • Ticket Sales Open for AFT

    American Folklore Theatre (AFT) announces ticket sales for the 2014 summer and fall seasons in Door County. This season includes three musicals playing in rotating repertory at their outdoor amphitheater in Peninsula State Park and a fall run of The Bachelors at the Door Community Auditorium in Fish Creek.

  • A Powerful Piece of Theater: Third Avenue Playhouse presents ‘columbinus’

    “Do you remember the Columbine shootings?” Director Robert Boles asked 11 Door County high school students gathered for their first rehearsal of columbinus – a play that examines the day in the life of archetypal high school students and what happened on April 20, 1999, when two students opened fire in Columbine High School.

  • Independent Filmmaker to Shoot in Baileys Harbor

    Rebecca Livengood and Chris Irwin are set to begin shooting a feature length movie in Door County in May. The two recently collaborated on the short film Winter Guest, which was shot in Baileys Harbor and premiered at the Door County Short Film Festival in February.

  • Rouge Theater Launches “Light the Depot” Campaign

    Rogue Theater launched their “Light the Depot” campaign on March 31st, with a goal to raise $10,000. In addition to new state of the art, energy saving LED lighting equipment, Rogue needs a sound system and theater type seating.

  • Door Shakespeare Seeks Storytellers

    Door Shakespeare, in collaboration with Write On, Door County, is seeking submissions from writers and storytellers for their inaugural, live storytelling event on June 15.

  • Rogue Theater Takes Shows on the Road

    Rogue Theater will perform several shows at different locations around Sturgeon Bay in March and April. Including a murder mystery at The Lodge at Leathem Smith for Groovin’ Sisterhood Weekend on April 25, and at the soon-to-open Door County Fire Company (formerly The Ladder House).

    March 4, Managing Director of the Peninsula Players, Brian Kelsey, accepted the 2014 Arts, Culture and Heritage Award for Tourism Excellence. Wow. That’s a big deal.

    Island Players presented Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House over the February 21 – 23 weekend. Howard Scott starred as Torvald Helmer and Jennifer Munao starred as Nora, his wife.

  • Auditions Announced for “The Belgian Detective”

    Auditions for the upcoming Rogue Theater’s production of The Belgian Detective by Carol Lyons, will take place March 8 at 3 pm at The Depot Performing Arts Center.

  • “Souvenir” Continues through March 9

    Souvenir opened at Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP) on Feb. 20 and will continue its run through March 9. Souvenir is based on the real life story of Florence Foster Jenkins (played by Claire Morkin) – a wealthy society eccentric who suffered under the delusion that she was a great coloratura soprano when she was in fact incapable of producing two consecutive notes in tune.
