Door County is renowned nationwide for it’s array of local, independent theater in settings unlike any other. There’s the historic Peninsula Players on the water, Northern Sky Theatre in the woods of Peninsula State Park, and Door Shakespeare in the gardens of Bjorklunden.   • Stage Door Presents “The Glass Menagerie”

    The Stage Door Theatre Company, the professional theatre troupe in residence at the Third Avenue Playhouse presents its first production of the 2013 summer/fall season, Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie.

  • Encore Performances of “Lone Star” from Rogue Theatre

    Rogue Theatre has encore performances of Lone Star in the works, along with new productions. Lone Star will be performed July 18 – 20 at Sister Bay Village Hall, and on Labor Day weekend at Trueblood Performing Arts Center on Washington Island.

  • Peninsula Players Seminar Features “Bottoms-Up” Author

    Terry Twyman’s cowboy tale Saloon is on stage at Peninsula Players Theatre through June 30. Set in 1871, when the American West was unsettled, railroads were forming and cattle were still driven hundreds of miles to market by range hands.

  • StageKids Announce Workshop Schedule

    StageKids of Third Avenue Playhouse in Sturgeon Bay presents its summer/fall theatre workshop schedule. The following classes are available: • Introduction to Clowning with Dan Klarer, June 22, 12 – 2 pm; for ages 10-18 • Introduction to Improvisation with Ryan Patrick Shaw, July 8, 12 – 3 pm; for ages 9-12 & 13-18 • Introduction to Musical Theatre with Claire Morkin, July 15, 12 – 3 pm; for ages 12-18 • Introduction to Theatre with Spencer Milligan, Aug.

  • “The Glass Menagerie” Performances Begin at TAP

    The opening night performance of The Glass Menagerie, by Tennessee Williams, is slated for June 26 at 7:30 pm at Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP). The play will be performed through July 19, but the opening performance will benefit Ministry Door County Medical Center Dental Clinic; a portion of all ticket sales will be donated to the clinic.

  • Pen Players Open Season with “Saloon”

    Peninsula Players Theatre opened its 78th season on June 11 with the Wisconsin première of Saloon by Terry Twyman, a gritty, often raucous, cowboy tale set in the Old West with a real never-say-die spirit.

  • Pen Players Announces Cast for 78th Season

    Peninsula Players Theatre announces cast members for its 78th season, running June 11 through October 20. The mix of plays includes a gritty cowboy tale, a world première comedy, a Tony Award-winning musical, the Wisconsin première of a funny whodunit as well as a family comedy.

  • Gibraltar Players Perform Student-produced, One-act Play

    On May 31, June 1 and 2, members of the Gibraltar theatre program will perform the second annual student-produced one act play, directed by senior Anya Kopischke.

  • Terrence James Coffman Brings Vincent Van Gogh Play to Washington Island

    Terrence James Coffman will bring his one-person, two-act show that portrays the famous artist, Vincent Van Gogh, to the Trueblood Performing Arts Center in Washington Island on May 31 at 7:30 pm.

  • StageKids Presents AlieNation for One Performance Only

    StageKids presents AlieNation, for one performance only, on May 25 at 2 pm at Third Avenue Playhouse in Sturgeon Bay. The Sossy Mechanics team (Brian Sostek and Megan McClelland) will direct a group of Door County students in this allegorical story about fear of the unfamiliar and acceptance of those who are different as told by humans, their alien neighbors, and a whole lot of foam swimming noodles.

  • TAP’s Kickstarter Deadline is June 2

    On April 30, Third Avenue Playhouse launched a fundraising campaign through Kickstarter, the crowd funding website. Money raised from this campaign will go to fund the opening production of Stage Door Theatre Company’s production of The Glass Menagerie, opening June 26.

  • Isadoora Theater Presents “Why Torture is Wrong, and the People Who Love Them”

    You’ll feel strange, perhaps guilty for laughing, but you will laugh. Isadoora Theater’s upcoming production of Christopher Durang’s Why Torture is Wrong, and the People Who Love Them offers audiences an absurd tale, a black comedy, a satire on America’s hot-button issues, primarily torture as the title suggests, but also stem cell research, abortion, 9/11, terrorism, Syria, gun violence, and porn.

  • American Folklore Theatre & DCMM Collaborate on Student Ticket Program

    Capitalizing on the popularity of their ongoing student ticket program, American Folklore Theatre will once again distribute a complimentary ticket to every elementary, middle and high school student in Door County to attend the world premiere production of Windjammers this summer at the AFT Amphitheater in Peninsula State Park.

  • Pen Players Host Annual Spring Clean Day

    To prepare for the arrival of the Peninsula Players company members, the Players will host its annual Spring Clean Day on May 11, beginning at 9 am. Volunteers will join the Players’ staff to spruce up the dorm rooms and grounds.

  • Sossy Mechanics Visits Stage Door Theatre Company

    Stage Door Theatre Company will host their first artist-in-residence program, Sossy Mechanics, on May 17 – 27. The duo of Megan McClellan and Brian Sostek comprise Sossy Mechanics, and they will teach workshops and perform their hit show, direct from the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, Trick Boxing.

  • Ticket Sales Open for AFT

    American Folklore Theatre (AFT) announces ticket sales are open for their 2013 Summer and Fall shows. The season includes three musicals playing in repertory at their outdoor amphitheater in Peninsula State Park in Fish Creek and the return of last year’s world premiere, Victory Farm, to their indoor stage at the Door Community Auditorium.
